Messiah Anointed of God And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit
of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
Isaiah 11:2
And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of
the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes,
neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
Isaiah 11:3
The Messiah is the anointed one. He will be anointed by God. He has
understanding that is by God's Spirit and not learned by man. He has
have the spirit of counsel, might, knowledge and fear of God. He will not
judge by what He sees or hears but by the Spirit. He will be able to
discern good and evil by the anointing of the Spirit.
But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove
with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the
earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips
shall he slay the wicked.
Isaiah 11:4
The Spirit or anointing will cause Him to be able to judge in righteousness
or right living. This is the only true way to judge with fairness and without
partiality. Wickedness will be destroyed and right living will remain.
Jesus had this anointing when He walked the earth 2000 years ago and
when He returns He will judge the earth with this anointing.
The anointing of the Holy Spirit is also something we can have now if we
obey God and receive Jesus Christ into our lives. This requires following
the Lord and seeking Him on a daily basis. This requires us to be deeply
committed to seek the mind of the Spirit and not just do according to our
own feelings, desires, what we see and what we hear. Someone with the
gifts and anointing of the Holy Spirit can heal the sick, cast out devils and
do the works of Christ. This sometimes comes by prayer and fasting and
being totally dedicated to God and His service. Jesus Christ was such a
person and came with the sole purpose of obeying God and bringing the
gospel of salvation to all of mankind. He then had to pay the penalty for
the sin of the world by His death on the cross. After rising from the dead
He got victory over death and is now able to grant eternal life to as many
as will receive it. He had to overcome and make the way first. Now all
who come to Him and ask forgiveness for sins and salvation can also
have eternal life.
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath
anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent
me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of
the prison to them that are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to
comfort all that mourn;
Isaiah 61:1-2
Although Isaiah had the anointing of God to preach also, this prophecy
refers to the coming Messiah who was to be anointed by the Holy Spirit
to preach good news to the meek, to bind up the brokenhearted, to bring
liberty to the captives and open the prison to them that are bound.
At His first coming Jesus, preached the gospel and showed that
repentance and believing on Him as the savior would bring eternal life.
"No man comes unto the Father but by me."
When we are still in sin we are the same as being in prison and bound
with chains. Sin's chains are heavy and hard to bear. Sometimes I've
heard testimonies of a person who came to Christ for the first time.
Some say that it felt like a great weight is lifted and they feel so fresh and
clean. Others do not feel anything but take salvation by faith and their
lives are also changed. We are actually in bondage to sin before coming
to Jesus. That is why we can't get victory over hate, greed, selfishness,
pride, vanity, lust and other sins of the flesh. The whole earth will never
stop hating, conquering and killing until the whole world is free from sin
and living in righteousness. We can't get this by ourselves or by doing
good deeds although we should do good deeds. We have to let Jesus
Christ into our lives in order to have true love, joy, peace and overcome
sin that kills, steals and destroys.
Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore
God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Psalms 45:7
The Psalmist David also prophesied of the anointing of the Messiah.
A true prophet of God will love righteousness and hate wickedness. This
is how Jesus is and how a true follower of Jesus is. If someone is
confessing to have Jesus living within them and being filled with His spirit
and still loves sin and follows wickedness, something is wrong.
A believer might sin once in a while but they will hate the sin and want
immediate victory over it. We cannot have fellowship with Christ and
love sin at the same time. The two do not mix. A true child of God will
love right living and hate wickedness.
When we find ourselves full of bitterness, hate and sin whether we are
Christians or non-Christians, what do we do??
REPENT. We cry out to God. If we have never received Jesus Christ
as savior, we cry out and say something like,
"Lord I do not want to be lost. I do not want to sin. Forgive my sin and
come into my life."
If you are a Christian who knows all these things but somehow has gotten
away from the love, joy and peace that comes from God's spirit and has
allowed, unforgiveness, hate, bitterness, envy, selfishness or some other
sin to enter you live and rob you of your joy in Jesus Christ then the
answer is to also REPENT.
"Lord, help me to overcome. Forgive me of my sin. I hate it. Help me
to love and forgive, overcome selfishness and be a fruitful Christian and
reflect your love to others instead of prejudice, hate, backbiting and
other things I've allowed in my life."
We overcome by repenting, changing and constantly being in the
presence of the Lord by prayer, bible study and seeking the fellowship of
other believers in a good bible believing church or assembly.
We then ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit so that we can have the
power to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others without fear.
Fulfillment of the anointing in the New Testament:
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of
the
water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in
whom I am well pleased.
Matt 3:16-17
We see here that Jesus was anointed and filled with the Holy Spirit of God
after He was baptized in water by John the Baptist. A voice from heaven
witnessed that Jesus was indeed the Son of God in whom God was well
pleased.
The day will come when we will face God ourselves. I hope Jesus will be
able to say to me, "Well done good and faithful servant, Enter into the joy
of the Lord."
What a blessing to be able to hear that God is pleased with us. We don't
have to settle for anything less. We can one day hear him say that if we
come to Him now and receive He gift of salvation.
"What a Day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see.
When I look upon His face, the one who saved me by His
Grace. When He takes me by the hand and leads me
through the promised land. What a Day, glorious day
that will be."
