And God said, Sarah thy wife
shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou
shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an
everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
Gen 17:19
The promise of the coming salvation for mankind was extended through Isaac
and it was meant to be everlasting. To really understand this we need to
search the scriptures and seek the Lord for our eyes of
understanding to be open. Many who look for the Messiah to
come can miss it if their hearts are looking for material wealth and
victory over enemies without first seeking that their hearts are cleansed
from sin and have a right relationship with God. This is why I believe
that the Jewish people have rejected Jesus Christ as their Messiah. They
were looking for material blessings and victory over the enemies that
surrounded them instead of looking for salvation and being saved from sin.
The law was given to them to show that we all have sinned and all
possess a sinful nature. It was a school master to bring all to the Messiah
and show all that a savior was needed. The law could not give us
freedom from sin and make us right with God. We would have to
keep the law in every point and not fail once in our entire lifetime to be
saved by keeping the law. This was impossible except with Jesus Christ,
the only mortal man who kept the law in every point. This is why His
death counted as a perfect sacrifice for the sins of all who believe in Him because He didn't die
for breaking the law or for His own sins because He didn't have any sin.
He actually suffered in our place. We have to believe and receive this in
order for His death to count for us.
And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy
sight
because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath
said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be
called.
Gen 21:12 Sarah tried to help God's promise to come to pass by giving her
bondwoman to Abraham since she (Sarah) could no longer bear children.
She was acting on faith but in the natural not the supernatural. She didn't
take into account that God is able to bring about the impossible. This
caused enmity between the seed of Ishmael and the seed of Isaac until
this day.
However, God chose the seed of Isaac to be the seed that
brought forth the Messiah, the one to bring salvation to those who
believe. This Messiah is not just for the seed of Isaac but for all people of
the whole world. Our part is just believing this for our salvation.
The devil or Satan also believes that Jesus is the Christ of course but he
doesn't believe in Jesus Christ unto salvation. We can believe someone
exists and still miss salvation. I believe that Hitler existed but I don't
believe in what Hitler stood for so I don't really believe in Hitler although I
believe he was a real person.
To believe in Jesus as the Christ means to believe he existed but also that
He came to save us from sin and give us eternal life. To believe in Jesus
means to believe what He taught and stood for. To believe in Jesus
means to repent and turn from sin and receive the Holy Spirit Jesus gives
in order to live a life pleasing to Him. In other words to believe on the
Lord Jesus Christ means to receive Him in our lives not just believe that
He once existed and walked the earth.
Fulfillment of the prophecy that Christ came from the seed of Isaac:
And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age,
being (as was
supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was
the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of
Joseph,
Which was the son of Mattathias, which was the son of Amos, which
was the son of Naum, which was the son of Esli, which was the son of
Nagge,
Which was the son of Maath, which was the son of Mattathias, which
was the son of Semei, which was the son of Joseph, which was the son of
Juda,Which was the son of Joanna, which was the son of Rhesa, which was
the son of Zorobabel, which was the son of Salathiel, which was the son
of Neri,
Which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Addi, which was
the son of Cosam, which was the son of Elmodam, which was the son of
Er,
Which was the son of Jose, which was the son of Eliezer, which was
the son of Jorim, which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of
Levi,
Which was the son of Simeon, which was the son of Juda, which was
the son of Joseph, which was the son of Jonan, which was the son of
Eliakim,
Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was
the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of
David,
Which was the son of Jesse, which was the son of Obed, which was
the son of Booz, which was the son of Salmon, which was the son of
Naasson,
Which was the son of Aminadab, which was the son of Aram, which
was the son of Esrom, which was the son of Phares, which was the son of
Juda,
Which was the son of Jacob, which was the son of Isaac, which was
the son of Abraham, which was the son of Thara, which was the son of
Nachor,
Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was
the son of Phalec, which was the son of Heber, which was the son of
Sala,
Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which
was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of
Lamech,
Which was the son of Mathusala, which was the son of Enoch, which
was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son
of Cainan,
Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the
son of Adam, which was the son of God.
Luke 3:23-38
By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and
he that
had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead;
from whence also he received him in a figure.
Heb 11:17-19
God even tempted Abraham to offer Isaac as a sacrifice. Abraham still
believed that God was going to use Isaac and could raise him from the
dead. We read in Genesis that God sent an angel to stop Abraham from
killing his son and provided a substitute sacrifice.
Abraham was willing to give up his own son whom he loved and
cherished and waited for so long. God in turn gave up His own Son and
allowed Him to become man in the flesh and suffer and die in order to
save us from our sins and bring us back into the relationship with Him that
was lost in the Garden of Eden.
