Death of the Messiah
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was
bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and
with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)
The Messiah paid the price for our sins. He was wounded because of our
transgressions. He suffered in our place. With His stripes we are healed.
With the beatings He took on His back we are healed. Our peace comes about
because of His sufferings. We now can have peace and reconciliation with
God.
Fulfillment in the New Testament
For when we were yet without strength, in due time
Christ died for the ungodly.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good
man some would even dare to die.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us.
Romans 5:6-8 (KJV)
The Just died for the unjust. God loved us so much that He allowed His Son
to come in the flesh and be one of us. He didn't sin in all that time so He
was able to become the perfect sacrifice for the sins of as many as will
believe this. Jesus Christ fulfilled this prophecy when He died on the
cross. He could have avoided all this by using His power to become King of
Israel then and there. He could have just kept quiet and not said anything
about people's sins. He could have called the angels to rescue him from the
cross. He stayed there in order to save us from sin. Had He came down, no
flesh would be saved. All of us would have to suffer eternal damnation and
separation from God in Hell.
For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked
have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
Psalms 22:16-18 (KJV)
Imagine what Jesus went through. He was not killed in a private execution
chamber. He was stripped of all outer garments. Presented naked before the
world in a humiliating position. He was nailed by His hands and feet and
lifted up for all to see Him in this terrible condition. Yet He bore it all
for our sakes that we might be saved. The soldiers even divided His clothing
to give out and gambled for His vesture. This fulfilled the prophecy in the
Psalms.
And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they
shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as
one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one
that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
Zech 12:10 (KJV)
The prophecy in Zechariah is yet to be fulfilled in part. Some of it has
already been fulfilled in that the spirit of grace and supplications have
already started in those that have already believed since He came into the
world the first time. For the most part it will take place in the future
when Israel sees that the one their ancestors pierced was the very Messiah
that Moses and the prophets prophesied of years ago and whom their ancestors
rejected and ordered to be crucified. They will one day look upon that
Messiah and mourn for their previous unbelief. Then God will pour out His
grace and mercy upon them. Israel will be restored back to God and then
receive the promise given to Abraham.
Fulfillment in the New Testament
Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on
either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
John 19:18 (KJV)
Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the
first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake
not his legs:
But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came
there out blood and water.
And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that
he saith true, that ye might believe.
For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone
of him shall not be broken.
John 19:32-36 (KJV)
Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself:
handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me
have.
And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
Luke 24:39-40 (KJV)
Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and
behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and
be not faithless, but believing.
And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast
believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
John 20:27-29 (KJV)
Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection and showed Him that
He was alive and real. Thomas had said previously that he would not believe
that Jesus was alive unless he felt of His hands and saw the nail prints.
Jesus appeared to him and showed Him the nail prints and where His side was
pierced with the soldier's sword. Jesus also stated that those that
didn't see Him and still believed would be blessed. Many of us today
will receive that blessing if we have not seen Jesus with out eyes but
believe anyway.
Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see
him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall
wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
Rev 1:7 (KJV)
Jesus will return in the clouds and all who are on the earth will see Him.
Those whose ancestors had pierced Him will wail and cry out. Just imagine
for one moment what they may say. "Oh No, you mean this Jesus was really our
Messiah all this time." "We killed our very King."
Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great,
and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out
his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare
the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Isaiah 53:12 (KJV)
It was prophesied that the Messiah would be killed along with sinners or
transgressors. He also would bear the sins of many. He would make
intercession for sinners. This Jesus did.
Fulfillment in the New Testament
And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his
right hand, and the other on his left.
And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the
transgressors.
Mark 15:27-28 (KJV)
In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry
forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a
bone thereof.
Ex 12:46 (KJV)
He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
Psalms 34:20 (KJV)
In the Psalms it is prophesied that no bones of the Messiah would be
broken. At the Passover in Exodus the bones of the sacrifice was not to be
broken. This was a prophecy concerning the future sacrifice of the Messiah.
Not one bone was to be broken.
Fulfillment in the New Testament
Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the
first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake
not his legs:
But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came
there out blood and water.
And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that
he saith true, that ye might believe.
For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone
of him shall not be broken.
John 19:32-36 (KJV)
The Messiah loves His enemies For my love
they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.
Psalms 109:4 (KJV)
The Messiah loved His enemies and prayed for them
Fulfillment in the New Testament
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know
not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Luke 23:34 (KJV)
Not only did Jesus suffer for all our sins but during His suffering He asked
God to forgive those who were doing this to Him because they did not
understand what they were doing.
Many times we stir up trouble against another person and do not realize the
consequences of our words and actions. One dynamic speech from an eloquent
speaker can kill and destroy with words and stir up a mob to violence. If we
can overcome the power of the tongue and use our speech for good instead of
evil, we would be greater than a might army.
Let us receive this wonderful savior who died that we might live. Who was
resurrected that we also could be resurrected. Eternal life and a life free
from sin awaits all who believe. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, calling
on Him and repenting of sins and you will inherit eternal life and also lead
your family and friends to eternal life.
You will never regret giving your life to Jesus Christ. Never, for His is
truly the promised Messiah who was to save the world. You can be part
of this great Kingdom of God.
