Study of Jeremiah
Chapter 30

(Jer 30:1) The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

(Jer 30:2) Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.

(Jer 30:3) For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.

(Jer 30:4) And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah.

(Jer 30:5) For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.

(Jer 30:6) Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

(Jer 30:7) Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

It seems here that this prophecy of Jeremiah may have a double meaning. The women were surely in travail and troubled in the time of Jeremiah and the captivity of Babylon but we also see that there is mentioned a time of Jacob's trouble. This may refer to the future great tribulation as we shall see as we study further.

(Jer 30:8) For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:

We know that in the time when Israel returned home after the Medes and Persians destroyed Babylon, Israel later came under Roman authority. During the time of Christ the Roman Empire was in control. After a time around 70 AD the Roman army destroyed the temple that was rebuilt after their return from captivity. So we see that verse 8 had not yet come to pass fully as of that time. We now see Israel again returned to their own land in 1948 but with wars and trouble almost every day so the time of Jacob's trouble is not yet over.

(Jer 30:9) But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

We know that this has not happened as yet. Actually this David here is probably the Messiah, Son of David, prince of peace, the Lord Jesus Christ at His return. I have heard some teach that the actual David in his resurrected body will reign under Christ but most believe this is referring to Jesus Christ Himself.

(Jer 30:10) Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.

We may not understand exactly how God will bring this to pass and how events will happen perfectly but we do know that God knows what He is doing and this word will come to pass. Israel will one day dwell in peace from all enemies. This is a promise of God from way back. We can see from recent news that this cannot have come to pass yet and did not yet come to pass in 1948 but is yet future for they are not yet dwelling in peace.

(Jer 30:11) For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.

Judah and Israel were punished and is still to receive correction for their rejection of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. It says here that even if God were to destroy all other nations that Israel was scattered to, God will not destroy Israel.

(Jer 30:12) For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous.

(Jer 30:13) There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.

(Jer 30:14) All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.

(Jer 30:15) Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.

God allowed all these things to happen to Israel because of sin. If Israel, God's chosen people were punished because of sin and constant failure to repent and turn to God, how much more will He punish other nations who sin. We must not be high-minded but fear God. This is no time for any nation to be full of pride and think they are above the judgment or correction of God.

I see the days of hardheadedness getting worse. More and more the preachers who preach against sin are mocked and ridiculed. In the United States those that preach truth are spoken evil of and those that lead people to do evil are counted as the good guys. I live in a time when people are striving to allow gays and lesbians to marry. It is a time of great sorrow. To allow this is to ignore God's word and allow great sin to destroy our nation. Those who read this may very well accuse me of hate mongering. If they could only see my heart though they would know that I do not hate them. I just am able to see the end result if they do not change and repent.  If they do not allow God to forgive them this wickedness and allow the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse their sin,  I see eternity in hell for them and all those who ignore God. I see eternity in hell for those who mock, and ignore what God has said. I see eternity in hell for those who reject the precious Son of God, Jesus Christ and ignore the plan of salvation God made for all the human race. If only I could get it across to anyone who would listen, it is not those that warn against sin that are the hate mongers. Jeremiah did not hate. He risked his life and his reputation to tell the truth. Instead the hate mongers where those who hated him because he dared to believe God and warn them to repent and turn back to God. Its not those who are trying to save the lost that are hate-mongers but those that hate the ones who are trying to turn the lost from sin and to Jesus Christ.  Who are the real hate-mongers?  If a parent sees it's child ready to slip and fall into a deep hole, will he not cry out and stop that child.  Is it hate to yell and scream at a child to keep him from falling into that pit?  I will add here that a true child of God should never mock, make fun of,  ridicule or physically harm anyone.  You bring reproach upon the cause of Christ when you mistreat any person. You can't win a person to Christ with force, cruelty or any method other than preaching the gospel by the power of the Holy Spirit.  A person cannot be saved from sin against his or her will.  Trying to force someone to be a Christian is like trying to force a dog to be a cat.  It can't be done.  A Christian becomes a Christian when he or she is born again by the Spirit of God.  Man cannot do it.  It is done by the power of God after someone exercises faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  It is a spiritual event.  Nothing a man or woman can say or do can bring save a soul, only God can do that.

(Jer 30:16) Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.

All those that persecute Israel will be judged by God very severely. Those that devour Israel shall be devoured. Does Babylonian, Media-Persian, Grecian and the Roman Empire exist today?? Does the Nazi Regime exist today? Future persecutors may arise but they too will go the way of all others. They will not prevail, not because Israel is without sin but because it is the plan of God. God still plans to bring Israel back to Himself after they finally recognize their Messiah, Jesus Christ.

(Jer 30:17) For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.

Why would we not want them restored and well?  Why would we not want the whole world to be saved and restored back to God?  Why do people get angry when we want good for them?  Why do people get angry when we tell them they can have eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ? Why do we want to hate anyone?  Why do we want to take someone's life who disagrees with us?  Why do some bomb little children, buses and hurt innocent people?  Why is there not peace?   It is so bad that only the power of God can heal it.  We don't understand all these things and all this death we read about in the papers but we know that it will end. It will end when sin is destroyed and Jesus comes back to rule the earth.  Even so come Lord Jesus.

(Jer 30:18) Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob's tents, and have mercy on his dwelling places; and the city shall be builded upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.

(Jer 30:19) And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

(Jer 30:20) Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them.

(Jer 30:21) And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD.

(Jer 30:22) And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

Although Israel is prospering at this present time, the time of this prophecy could not be fulfilled yet because they are not as rest from war and they have not yet received Jesus Christ as a nation.  There have been a few Messianic Jews but the nation of Israel still do not believe.

(Jer 30:23) Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD goeth forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked.

(Jer 30:24) The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it.

Judgment will come to all nations who sin and turn its inhabitants away from God and the savior Jesus Christ. From Genesis to Revelation there is warnings and pleadings for men to repent and turn to God. To those that accuse negative preachers of legalism and being too negative, the bible is full of negative preaching. Jesus had many negative things to say. Jesus warned against rejecting Him as savior and not repenting of sin. Although He speaks comfortably to those who believe in Him, He has much warning against those who reject the beautiful gospel that offers eternal life.

Words of Jesus:

John 8:21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
John 8:22
Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
John 8:23
And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
John 8:24
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

If we do not believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the one sent from God to save men from their sins, then we have rejected the only way to be saved. If we do not repent and allow Jesus to take away our sins, then we shall die in our sins. He was punished for our sins even though He did not sin and did not deserve to die for sin. If we reject Him, His payment for our sins will not count on our behalf. We have to believe in Him in order for His sacrifice to count for us. We have to believe to receive God's gift of eternal life.

If a rich man was to offer a 100 dollars to every one who came to get it, it would do no one any good unless they first believed in his offer and went to accept it. The same is true with Jesus Christ. It does us no good unless we believe and receive Jesus Christ. After we believe He sends us the Holy Spirit to abide with us. Old things pass away and all things become new. The old sin is forgiven and we now desire to live for God and not serve sin.

I don't care if you don't sin any big sins or if you have sinned great sins, the sin has to be forsaken and repented of. God's power can deliver you from any sin. The biggest sin though is unbelief because without faith you can't receive the forgiveness or the freedom from sin.

The first step to God is just believe:

Act 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
